Can’t move forward Melvin’s perspective
I’m considered the third son of the Marquis Andrews family, but in reality I’m only cousins with my two older brothers.
My mother was the daughter of the former Marquis Andrews, the grandfather of our three brothers, and his wife, a maid.
My mother was raised in a small villa in a corner of the territory, and although they didn’t have any luxuries, she was able to live without any hardships.
And so, she married a commoner knight who was also her childhood friend, and I was born.
I didn’t even know that I was of marquis blood, and I used to play with the neighborhood children, running through the fields and mountains.
My life changed completely when I turned ten years old, and my father was attacked and killed by a magical beast that appeared out of nowhere while on a mission.
His mother grieved the loss of her beloved husband, and soon passed away after contracting a cold.
I was left alone, but before I could even despair, someone from the Marquis Andrews family came to pick me up and take me to their magnificent mansion.
So since I had fairly good physical abilities and magical powers, I was adopted and raised as the child.
I was very confused when I went from being a commoner to the third son of a marquis, but my adoptive parents and older brothers all loved me, so I was able to fit in quickly.
Although her adoptive father never came to visit her in person, he always cared about her, his half-sister.
The Andrews family is a long-established military family, and his adoptive father served as Grand Commander of the Knights at the time.
Since my father was a knight, it was only natural that I would aspire to become a knight as well.
The main mission of the 5th division I belong to is to go on expeditions and subjugate magical beasts.
Although reducing the number of magical beasts is an important mission, it requires people to camp out or be away from the royal capital for long periods of time, so it’s difficult to gather people for it.
The reason I chose the 5th Division was because I thought I could repay my foster father in some small way.
There were some difficult times working in the 5th Division, but fortunately it wasn’t too difficult.
To me, magical beasts are the enemy of my father, so I want to hunt as many as possible to reduce the number of people who become victims, and since I grew up in the countryside until I was ten, I quickly got used to sleeping outdoors.
It was during the expedition that I met Kurt.
He found a wolf cub whose parents had been killed by a magical beast, and couldn’t bring himself to abandon it, so he made it his servant.
This was also possible because I was a member of the 5th Division.
As she fed them food and offered them wine and water, Clarice readily explained why she didn’t want to stand out.
I thought that Clarice’s position was a little similar to my mother’s.
If I wasn’t a wanted child, then I guess that was the case with my mother too.
Although they seem to have improved recently, contraceptives used until recently sometimes didn’t work.
I’m sure my mother was using birth control as well, but she had a child too.
But I don’t think my mother cared about that at all.
My father must have been smiling happily every day until he passed away.
I have very little memory of the maid that my grandmother, the former Marquess of Andrews, had, because she died when I was very young.
My mother said he was a cheerful and kind person.
I don’t think my grandmother and mother were ever harmed.
Clarice’s mother, who was poisoned, must have been terrified.
This may have led to Clarice developing a fear of the nobility as a whole.
The Viscount Boydell family is a fairly ordinary aristocratic family.
On the other hand, the Andrews family is a prestigious family with only a few families that can rival them in terms of status.
Even though I’m the third adopted son, I think people would be scared if they found out I was the son of such a high-ranking noble.
Clarice ate the food I brought with gusto, but it seemed she didn’t have much of a tolerance for alcohol, and after I gave her some wine she suddenly fell asleep.
I was quite surprised, but when I put my ear close to his mouth I could hear his peaceful breathing, so I was relieved.
He gently picked up Clarice and carried her to the bedroom, loosened her clothes and wrapped her in a blanket, just like he had done last night.
Clarice was so cute when she was sleeping that it made the blood rush to my lower body, but I knew I couldn’t attack her in a place like this, so I held back.
After all, I want her to be mine.
I don’t want anyone to touch me…
I think I understand Clarice’s situation now, so when I wake up tomorrow morning, I’ll face her and have a proper talk.
With that in mind, I bestowed my magical powers on Chico, then crawled next to Clarice and closed my eyes.
Clarice’s body temperature was comfortable tonight and she quickly fell asleep.
I’m often away from the royal capital, but after returning from an expedition I have a few days off.
He had hoped to deepen his relationship with Clarice there, but that was not to be.
The only time I could visit Clarice’s room was when I wanted to exchange materials for medicine.
I kept insisting, but Clarice was adamant that I had no choice but to accept the conditions.
Before that, Clarice had only intended to exchange materials and medicines once, so she’ll probably have to be happy just to be able to continue doing so in the future.
August had also told me not to rush things, so I wanted to do as Clarice wanted and make her my own, body and soul, as soon as possible.
That’s why it was so frustrating being able to see them only once or twice a month.
With the increased variety of materials available, new medicine recipes have also been created.
After giving the new medicine to Sandy, she shuts herself up in the lab, forgetting to eat or sleep, and emerges after a considerable amount of time with a haggard face and only a gleaming purple eye.
At times like that, Sandy is so scary that even I am a little put off.
The maids are so scared they’re in tears.
The reason Sandy is so obsessed with Clarice’s medicine is because it is so revolutionary.
”Please let me meet the pharmacist who created this!” he begs her repeatedly, but she continues to reject his request, citing August’s words.
Or rather, I simply don’t want Clarice and Sandy to meet.
After all, Sandy might end up falling in love with the cute and talented Clarice.
Even Clarice might get along better with Sandy, who is also a pharmacist, than with me.
Just thinking about it causing an unpleasant feeling to spread in my chest.
Clarice apparently experiments with new medicines, and it all happens in her tiny apartment.
It probably won’t explode or create a foul smell like Sandy did.
If Clarice were given a lab like Sandy’s and an abundance of materials, I’m sure she would be able to create amazing drugs one after another.
For Clarice’s sake and for the country’s sake, I want to create such an environment as soon as possible.
The more I meet, the more I like Clarice.
The first time, we were given only stew, salad and bread, but from the second time, the range of dishes increased and we were served more elaborate meals.
Just knowing that Clarice worked hard for me makes me very happy.
Our bodies are a perfect match, and it’s so cute how she melts as soon as I touch her.
Although he really wants to savor Clarice gently and slowly, he never has the time for that and always ends up gobbling her down greedily.
I know it’s pathetic, but I can’t help it, since I was thinking about Clarice the whole time during the expedition.
When I thought about another man approaching Clarice while I was far away, I was overcome with an overwhelming sense of anxiety, and I took out my frustration on the beast.
Every time he visits Clarice’s room he is relieved to find no trace of the man, and every time he confirms that the feeling inside her hasn’t changed he feels truly relieved.
If I wanted to spend more time with them, I’d have to transfer out of the 5th Division.
Thanks to Clarice’s medicine, I was always in good shape, and I was able to hunt more magical beasts than usual, which increased my reputation.
He’s been with the Fifth Division for many years now, so if he wishes, his wish will come true.
However, if he did that, there would be no reason for him to give the materials to Clarice.
I’d like to think that the reason Clarice is always so happy to welcome me into her room is because she gets to see me, but I get the feeling that she sees me as just a material.
I should be fairly popular with the ladies, but Clarice never wants me.
Although he wants to confess his feelings as soon as possible and make her his, he is hesitant to go any further because he is afraid that if he does so, she will just reject him or run away and it will all end.
August seemed annoyed at me, but didn’t say anything.
