“I want to break off our engagement, so let me declare you a criminal.” Even though he was unfaithful, my fiancé, the fourth prince, didn’t want to be seen as a villain, so he pinned the blame on me and exiled me to an island. I ended up living on an island that had been abandoned by its guardian spirit, making it an environment that was hardly suitable for humans to live in. However, I hit it off with the guardian spirit, and he took a liking to me.
With the guardian spirit’s powers, I was able to purify the island’s water and plants, and I started to rise up on the island from nothing.
Meanwhile, the prince who exiled me incurred the wrath of the king of another country, and met a tragic end…
“I want to break off my engagement with you, so let me declare you a criminal, Sherphy.”
When she was summoned by her fiancé, the fourth prince of this country, Arfondo, and the two of them were alone in his private room, he said it without any apology.
“……yes?”
Born as the daughter of a duke, I was destined to marry Arfond from an early age. It should have been decided, but this prince is saying some silly things.
“…What do you mean, Arfond-sama?”
“Yeah. Well, actually, it wasn’t exactly cheating, but I ended up having a relationship with another woman.”
That’s what they call cheating! I wanted to shout out with all my might, but I kept quiet and listened to what he said.
Apparently, the person Arfond has gotten his hands on is the princess of a neighboring country.
Unlike his older brothers, the fourth prince had never had the chance to be taken to a place to interact with other countries. Recently, he was allowed to attend a rare party in a neighboring country as part of a diplomatic event. They were attracted to each other at first sight, and that’s how it went. His thoughtlessness was giving him a headache.
(Of all people, he would make a move on a princess from another country even though he already has a fiancée?!)
The fact that Arfond cheated is not surprising in itself. Whether or not you can forgive him is another matter.
He’s always been a womanizer, and even though he has a fiancée, I knew that he was secretly meeting other ladies and inviting maids into his room. He may have been trying to hide it himself, but rumors spread like wildfire. I had heard about Arfond’s wild behavior at the evening parties where the nobles gathered.
Still, I can’t break off the engagement with him, he’s a prince. If I did, it would put my family’s position in a very precarious position. No matter how much I hate it, how hurt I am, or how dissatisfied I am, I have always endured it for the sake of my family.
Originally, the reason for my engagement to him was that Arfond, the fourth prince, would not inherit the throne, and would become lord by marrying a noble’s daughter. My parents had no other children besides me, so no heir, so it was perfect. By marrying me, Arfond would become lord, and my family’s ties with the royal family would be solidified. It was an engagement that would benefit both sides, or so I thought.
Our marriage is not just about us, it is also an issue that affects our home and the people around us. Because of this, even if I was angry, I did not want to make things worse, and as the legal wife, I thought I would turn a blind eye to a little cheating.
(I’ve been holding back for so long, and this is the result.)
“If she had been a woman of lower rank, I could have used my money and status to silence her. But that’s not possible when it comes to the princess of a neighboring country. That’s why, Sherphy, I want to break off my engagement with you.”
If she had been a woman of a lower status, would he have used his money and status to silence her?! Again, I thought to myself.
Arphond is too selfish, being pampered because he is a member of the royal family and is good-looking. He thinks that whatever he does, he can get away with it because he is a prince, and takes it for granted that people around him will do anything for him.
“I understand about breaking off the engagement. So… you want me to be made a criminal?”
“It would be unpleasant to hear that my engagement was broken off because of my infidelity. I even told the princess of the neighboring country that my fiancée is a terrible woman who keeps cheating on others, so I’m thinking of breaking off our engagement.”
“What? I’ve never cheated on anyone before.”
“So, that’s… to woo the princess… there’s no other way.”
……………What is he talking about, this stupid prince……? ?
If I was a “problem-free fiancé”, I would be the bad guy, and the princess would not sympathize with me. It would be an obstacle to bring us into “that kind of relationship”. So, to get her attention, he deliberately fabricated my crime.
(And of all people, he said this to me directly??)
I wonder what kind of nerve he has though――
(…Ah, I see.)
It’s like they don’t really care about me at all anymore. So much so that they don’t even try to fix it.
And he doesn’t think it’s scary that he’s offended me, who is not a member of the royal family after all. He completely underestimates me.
“So, I want you to say that the reason for the broken engagement was your infidelity.”
“What advantage does that give me…?”
“I know what I did wrong too. So officially it will be your fault, but in return I will give you money. Just tell me how much you want.”
“Do you think it’s okay to make me a criminal as long as I pay you?”
“What, you have a problem with that? I’m a prince, so it’s only natural that you obey me.”
Yes, you said earlier that you knew you were wrong, but you’re just talking. You’re being completely defiant, you idiot prince. The princess of the neighboring country had a hard time having a relationship with a man like this. I’m sure you’ll have a hard time later.
“Shelphy. You have had a wonderful time as my fiancé. As my fiancé, everyone looks upon you with envy and treats you with kindness. Who do you think you owe that to? You have been happy thanks to me up until now, so now it’s your turn to help make me happy.”
–Have I had a good experience? Thanks to Arfond?
Of course, even though he was the fourth prince, he was engaged to royalty, and so he was often envied. And because of that, he was also the victim of harassment out of jealousy.
Or rather, Arfond was once treated badly by a jealous young lady whom he had wooed. “Mr. Arfond actually loves me! I’m only engaged to you because of my family! Free poor Mr. Arfond!” Her dresses were ripped to shreds, and her accessories were stolen and hidden.
He cheated on me, he harassed me, and I had almost asked Arfond to break off our engagement. But for the sake of my family, I had swallowed his words.
“Here, sign this document. It says, ‘I have been unfaithful. Therefore, I accept that our engagement is to be annulled.’”
“…………”
“What’s with that dissatisfied look in your eyes? How insolent. If you don’t listen to me, I don’t care what happens to your family.”
“…! How dare a prince like you take his family hostage…!”
It was so horrible, yet Arfond didn’t even seem sorry. It made me look like a selfish, disobedient woman.
“Well, if you’re going to keep on being so cocky, then that’s the story. If you sign without hesitation, I’ll make sure that your family doesn’t suffer any damage as a result of the broken engagement. I’ll of course pay you compensation, but I’ll also promise you a new territory. If you ask Father, anything can be done.”
“…I’m sure that promise will also be properly documented.”
“Yeah. We don’t want to leave any legacy of trouble with the Duke family after all.”
I knew that even if I complained any more, Arfond would not reflect on himself, so I decided to sign the papers announcing the engagement in order to minimize the damage to my family.
◇ ◇ ◇
And so, now that my engagement with Arfond has been broken off, I am gazing at the sea.
“Whoaaaa…”
Before me was the vast, vast ocean. But this was by no means an “Wow!” of emotion. It was an “Wow!” of despair.
The ocean in front of me may be vast, but it’s not blue or transparent at all; it’s pitch black.
(I had heard about it, but seeing it in person is quite an amazing sight…)
This is Malinda Island, an isolated island floating in the Edmel Sea, which is the territorial waters of our country, Nozelwreath.
Why am I here? The answer is simple: I was exiled.
As compensation for breaking off our engagement, Arfond said he would give not only my family but also me personally a fief. I was ordered to live there from now on, and was taken aboard a ship by his servant… and we arrived at this island of Malinda.
Malinda Island is a small island that floats to the south of Nozelwreath, but the sea surrounding the island is dyed black like darkness even though it is not night, giving off an eerie atmosphere.
There is a legend that goes like this. Long ago, Malinda Island was blessed with abundant nature and many people lived there. A young man living on this island fell in love with the island’s guardian spirit, Windine.
The young man and Vindine were deeply in love and lived happily ever after. However, the young man fell in love with another girl and abandoned Vindine, saying, “I don’t need you anymore.” The people of the island also blessed the young man’s marriage, because children cannot be born between humans and spirits.
Filled with hatred and sorrow, Windine never appeared before the humans again. With Windine, the guardian spirit of Malinda Island gone, its once abundant nature began to decline, and the surrounding sea was cursed and stained black. The people could no longer live on the island, and were forced to emigrate to the mainland.
In any case, the island was abandoned as it was no longer usable and was left abandoned for decades.
I was told I could do as I pleased with this island, but this is just like being exiled to an island.
(Well, at least I didn’t get drowned in the ocean on the way here. … Or is it better?)
The captain and the other crew members who were on the same boat as me dropped me off on this island and then headed back to the mainland. I was in a desperate situation.
(I don’t think anyone will come to help me…)
The family that I had wanted to protect so much that it made me endure my unreasonable engagement to Arfond, changed their attitude completely as soon as they found out about the breakup. Up until then, they had been kind to me because I was the “fiancée of the prince,” but it seemed they no longer wanted a “daughter whose engagement had been broken off.”
Both my parents blamed me, saying, “You were the reason the engagement was broken off.” What was the truth of all the things I had been trying so desperately to protect?
“Maybe I should just throw myself into the sea…”
My heart is dark as if it is covered by a thick cloud, and I can’t be positive. There is no way I can be positive in this situation.
“Poor girl.”
“…………picture?”
As I was gazing out at the pitch black sea, I heard a voice that wasn’t my own.
“W-Who… is anyone there?”
“ah”
The next moment, a faint light appeared before me.
It wasn’t just any light. The light was humanoid – a beautiful, feminine form. It was like a goddess statue painstakingly crafted by the finest sculptors, radiating a divine glow.
“My name is Windine.”
“Windine… is that the guardian spirit of this island that is said to be there in the legends?”
“Do you know me?”
“Yes. Stories about you and this island have been passed down for generations…”
“I see. It’s a pathetic story to be told even now of being cruelly abandoned by the man you loved.”
Lord Windine suddenly let out a self-deprecating smile, as if recalling a painful memory.
“I was abandoned by the man I loved. In retribution, I left this island. I could never forgive him for abandoning me and marrying another woman, nor the people who blessed it. Even now… when I think of him, my heart boils. Even though a long time has passed since then… it’s so pathetic.”
“No! I’m not pathetic!”
I clench my fists and shout from the depths of my stomach.
“You were betrayed by someone you trusted, so no matter how many years have passed, there’s no way you can forgive them! It’s ridiculous that the person who was betrayed has to blame themselves! It’s so, so ridiculous that honest people end up losing out like this!”
“I, I see… you say that…”
“I was basically just thrown away like trash, and while I’m angry and sad to death, the person who dumped me is living a comfortable and happy life! That’s completely wrong! This world is so unfair!”
Naturally, my voice gradually gets louder, but there’s nothing I can do about it.
I, too, had reached my limit after a series of unreasonable events. I wanted someone to hear the cry of my heart. There was no one else around us anyway, and I didn’t care about my manners as a young lady anymore.
“Hmm, hmm! You’re right, it’s strange after all!”
Fortunately, Lady Windine didn’t look at me strangely, but instead nodded enthusiastically.
“I thought I’d never have anything to do with anyone in my life. But being able to talk to someone like this is, after all… fun.”
“Lord Vindine…”
“Ever since I was abandoned by the man I loved, I’ve never been able to forgive humans, and the other spirits mock me for being a woman who fell in love with a human and was abandoned afterwards. I kept others at a distance to protect my own heart, but the truth is… I just wanted someone to talk to.”
“Lord Windine!”
I could no longer think of her as a stranger. My sense of empathy grew stronger and I held out my hand, and she took it in a firm handshake. She was a spirit, but it was as if I could touch her.
「It’s okay now, if you want, feel free to complain to me as much as you like! I know very well what it feels like to be abandoned so unreasonably!」
“Yes. I had already grown tired of humans, but I think I can understand you. If you too have feelings that you want to let out, then just say it all.”
“Thank you! The truth is, my husband cheated on me and then broke off our engagement…”
We hit it off, let out all the things we had been holding back, and had a great time. Even though we had only just met, we were already talking like friends we had known for years.
“Ahh… I wonder when was the last time I had this much fun. Thank you, Shelfie. Thanks to you, I was able to laugh from my heart for the first time in a long time.”
“Thank you. I’ve been feeling down for a while, so I’m glad to meet you, Lady Windine.”
“Fufu. Really… I’m glad I got to meet you at the end, Shelfie.”
(–last?)
My eyes widened at the ominous words and lonely tone, but Lady Windine gave me a fleeting smile and said.
“I’m going to disappear soon.”
“Disappearing… why?”
“Guardian spirits like me are under the control of a superior being, the Great Spirit. Once every fifty years, the Great Spirit makes a judgment on the guardian spirits of each region. The day of judgment is approaching… and since I ended up driving the humans off this island, I will likely be deemed unfit to be a guardian spirit. If that happens, I will be eliminated.”
“What the…! If you think about it, Lady Vindin was the one who was betrayed and hurt by humans first.”
“But I am a guardian spirit. No matter what the reason, the Great Spirit will not forgive a guardian spirit whose heart has become corrupted. It can’t be helped.”
…Is there no other way?
Is it inevitable that you’ll be betrayed, hurt and then have your existence erased?
“I can’t accept this! I don’t want Lady Windine to disappear!”
After I said that from the bottom of my heart, Lady Windine opened her eyes slightly, then gave me a gentle smile.
“You are so kind, Shelfie. It is inevitable that I will disappear as a spirit. But if I am gone, you will be left alone on this island. And it will be difficult for you to survive. I don’t want to let Shelfie die in a place like this.”
Certainly, I felt a little lighter after hitting it off with Lady Windine, but that didn’t change the fact that I was in a desperate situation.
Even though her own existence was in danger, Lady Windine still seemed to be thinking seriously about me.
“If things continue like this, I will disappear… but there is someone in you who cares for me. Maybe I can leave my existence behind.”
“Leaving a legacy?”
“I entrust my power as your guardian spirit to you – it means that a part of me lives on within you.”
“Lord Vindine lives on within me…!”
A light of hope suddenly lit up in my heart. However, Lord Windine looked a little confused.
“However, there is a risk. After all, you are putting an inhuman power into a human like you. The vessel – your body – may be destroyed.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’m going to starve to death anyway.”
Not only was her engagement broken off, but she was also exiled to an island on false charges. She has nothing to fear anymore.
“I see…that’s true. I suppose it’s inevitable that I’ll disappear. I don’t want you to die alone. Sherphy, I’ll hand over my power to you. Use it as you like.”
The next moment, Lord Vindine’s body began to shine, and a faint glow appeared as if it was melting into the air――
“–!?”
My heart leapt loudly.
I feel like a huge ball of energy is flowing into my body.
(My body is hot…)
This is the power of the guardian spirit. Indeed, it is an immense power, far too great for a human to bear, and I nearly lose consciousness.
I felt like I was about to lose myself in the torrent of power. Lady Vindine disappeared from sight, and instead, her voice echoed in my head. It wasn’t coming from my ears. It was a voice that spoke directly to me from inside.
“Shelphy. You saved my heart when I was so sad. I’m glad I met you. Thank you so much…”
–My chest feels tight.
I’m glad I met you. When was the last time someone showed me such warm gratitude?
I’ve never been recognized or loved by anyone for a long time. Yes, since a long, long time ago. Even before I became a “Shelfie”…
(–picture?)
My heart leapt again and again.
(That’s right… before I became “Shelfie”, I lived in another world – and then died.)
Something arose within me — no, what was brought back to life within me were the memories of my past life.
In my previous life, I was a company employee in my late twenties. But even in my previous life, I was not loved by my parents, and the boyfriend I was supposed to marry cheated on me and dumped me. I was walking home in a daze after he broke up with me, when a truck ran a red light and crashed into me, killing me.
(Even after being reincarnated, I still ended up living a similar life. …But, I’m no longer alone.)
Lady Windine is inside of me.
Both my girlfriend and I were abandoned by the person we had promised our future to. It’s wrong to think that the person who is betrayed unreasonably is the one who ends up unhappy, and that people who don’t mind betraying others can live happily.
(To get back at those who abandoned us — this time, we will definitely survive and become happy.)

●Arfond’s point of view
Ever since I exiled Sherphy to an island, the people around me have been looking at me as if I were something despicable, and it makes me angry.
Everyone in this country knew that I was engaged to Sherfi, so maybe that’s why everyone was spreading rumors about the engagement being broken off.
Even now, the servants, unaware that I am nearby, are whispering to each other.
“I hear that Sherphy-sama was exiled to an island for infidelity… There’s no way Sherphy-sama would do something like that.”
“Yeah. Actually, I think you’ve done well to withstand all the violence of that idiot prince up until now.”
“A stupid prince, or rather, he was unfaithful, and then he framed his fiancee for the crime and exiled her to an island. He’s the worst kind of scumbag prince…”
Every single one of them is talking about me as if I’m the bad guy!
I simply realized true love. The goddess of fate whispered to me and the princess of a neighboring country to make love. I have done nothing wrong.
Of course, he had been having affairs with other women long before he laid hands on the princess. If he can’t even tolerate a little bit of flirting, then Sherphy has a small heart as a woman. Isn’t it the mark of a good woman to be able to forgive infidelity with a smile?
(Really? Everyone is so stupid.)
He took a deep breath and yelled at the servants who had been whispering rumors.
“What are you all talking about?! I will execute you servants for disrespect at my sole discretion!”
The servants who were being yelled at flinched when they noticed me, turned pale, and quickly bowed deeply. However, I had no intention of forgiving them just like that. I was feeling stressed at the time, so I thought I would give them a lecture for about an hour. Or maybe I should really torture or execute them. The servants were inferior creatures who had been badmouthing me, so this was the right thing to do.
“Arfond, there’s something I need to tell you. Come here.”
“Brother?”
He was planning to have some fun tormenting the stubborn servants, but he was summoned by the first prince, Ragro.
His Majesty the King, my father, had recently been diagnosed with an illness and was undergoing treatment, so it seemed that Lagro would be in charge of the country’s future affairs. Soon, Lagro would officially become king. However, it was infuriating that someone like this would become king just because he was born first.
I entered my brother’s room and we were alone. I wonder what he wanted. I hope it wasn’t anything troublesome.
“What is the story?”
“I’ll put it bluntly. You’re going to die.”
“…………………………yes?”
While I was standing there with my mouth open, not understanding what he was saying, my older brother calmly explained to me.
“Your advances are on to the neighboring country’s princess, Nemophila, Lady Josephianne. Though no big announcement has been made yet, talks of marriage have been moving forward. The other party is the King of Lugatania.”
My brother explained calmly.
Lugatania has the largest territory on the continent, and is stronger than any other country in terms of economic and military power. The King of Lugatania once had a wife and was blessed with many children, but the queen later died of illness.
The King of Lugatania himself is now old enough to be called an old man, and is expected to abdicate soon and hand over the throne to the first prince. After abdicating, he wants to marry a young second wife and live a life of pleasure, as he has fulfilled his role as king up until now.
The one chosen was the young and beautiful Josephine. The King of Nemophila was also delighted if his princess could become the second wife of the King of the great nation of Lugatania, and so marriage talks between the two countries were moving forward.
“Wait! I didn’t hear anything about that! I didn’t know!”
“It’s not something you can get away with saying you didn’t know. As the princess of a country, it’s only natural that she would have a partner in mind for the sake of the country. Besides, Lady Josephianne had the engagement crest on her clothes, right?”
“A-a contract crest? Now that I think about it, when I took off your clothes I thought there was a strange pattern on your chest…”
“You idiot. That’s the magical marriage contract crest of Lugatania. It’s a different culture to ours, but if you had studied it properly, you would have known it right away. Because of this contract crest, the King of Lugatania discovered that the princess had lost her virginity, and that you were the one to whom she had done so.”
I felt a chill run down my spine when I realized that I had unknowingly made a fearsome superpower my enemy.
“W-why?! Shouldn’t Josephianne have known that this would be a major problem?! The King of Lugatania would accuse her of infidelity!”
“Lady Josephianne claims that ‘You threatened me and forced me’. The magical contract crest can determine the physical state of the princess – whether she is chaste or not, and it can also identify the person who poured bodily fluids into her. However, compared to the state of the body, it is difficult to determine the emotional state with magic. Even with the contract crest, there is no way to determine whether or not someone consented.”
“Huh?! What is Josephianne thinking?!”
“Maybe you were used.”
“What!?”
“The princess’ marriage was being pushed forward by King Nemophila and King Lugatania, but…Lady Josephianne probably didn’t want to marry the King of Lugatania, who was much older than her father and whose looks could hardly be described as handsome. I think she also hated her parents for forcing such a marriage on her, ignoring her wishes. That’s why she wanted the engagement to be called off.”
I don’t understand what it means. Even though I don’t understand, sweat just pours out like a waterfall and won’t stop.
“The King of Lugatania may be lustful himself, but he requires that his women remain virgins. The Princess probably thought that if she had a relationship with you and lost her virginity, she could push the responsibility onto you and then call off our engagement. Even so, it would have become a major international issue… but perhaps the Princess didn’t really care about that at this point.”
“D-didn’t you care?”
“She didn’t choose to be born a princess. It’s possible that she had someone else she wanted to be with. But her parents treated her as a political tool and didn’t respect her. This may be Princess Josephine’s revenge on her parents and her own life.”
「Don’t mess with me! Why should I have to get involved in something like that!? It was my consent, but you’re making it seem like I forced myself on you? It’s a false accusation! It’s extremely despicable to frame an innocent person for a crime!」
“Crediting an innocent person for a crime. That’s what you did.”
“teeth?”
“I will condemn you for a false accusation. It was you who went to Shelfie.”
–I was at a loss for words after hearing something unexpected.
“But, I’m a member of royalty, and Sherphy is only a woman of a duke family… and that’s different…”
“I see. In that case, since Lady Josephianne is also a member of royalty, she has the same right to frame you for a crime as you do.”
“N-no! That’s not right…!”
“I don’t care about your childish self-defense. In any case, our country intends to atone for this crime by offering your head to the King of Lugatania.”
“But, even so, it’s strange that I’m the only one being made to look bad!”
“Even if we had an international trial, the fact remains that you laid a hand on the princess. I have no intention of spending years on a trial, nor do I intend to pay the costs. It would be better for us to offer your head to Lugatania, show our sincerity, and repay Nemophila’s kindness. If it’s only your life, rather than our territory or territorial waters, then that’s the cheapest thing we can do.”
Even though we were related by blood, I was left speechless by my brother’s cruel words.
“Brother! Why do you say such a thing! Please do something!”
“In the first place, you already had a fiancé, so you should have never laid a hand on Lady Josephianne. Also, when you saw the contract crest, you should have realized that she had a marriage contract with the King of Lugatania. You are entirely at fault.”
“What the heck?! Do you want me to die, big brother?”
“Is that so?”
His mouth dropped open again at the cold reply, which was so unlike what you would expect from family.
“You have a stupid face. Did you really think I’d tell you that’s not true?”
“Wh-why? Aren’t we blood brothers?”
“I simply thought of him as a stranger, someone related by blood.”
“Brother, why… what did I do…”
“On the other hand, why did you think I would help you? There’s no way an idiot like you would be liked. The nobles and servants around you were all just following you because of your status.”
At that moment, my brother picked up a sword that was lying nearby for some reason.
After drawing the sword from its sheath and revealing its sharp-looking blade, my brother approached me with the sword still in hand.
“I didn’t want to be born the first prince either. You may be a member of the royal family, but you don’t take on the responsibility of being king. You just do whatever you want, and keep doing stupid things. I hate you with all my heart.”
“Wait a moment. But even so… it would be a disgrace to our royal family if a criminal emerged from our royal family! For the sake of this country, it would be more beneficial for you and your brother if my crimes were treated as if they never happened!”
“Human emotions are not always rational. Just like when Lady Josephine embraced you in revenge against her family, knowing that it would become an international issue.”
My brother pointed his sword at me. I tried to run away, but my legs shook with fear, and I ended up pissing myself in a pathetic state.
“Remember. Love and hate are things that drive people crazy. …Although, even if you remember, you don’t have much time left to live.”
“H… higyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!”
As I tried to escape on trembling legs, I heard a bang and my leg was slashed by a sword.
“I’ll cut off both of your legs. It would be troublesome if you escaped. You would already be an offering to the King of Lugatania, but I’m sure he’ll forgive you as long as your head remains.”
“N-Nooooooooooo!!”

●Shelfie’s point of view
(It seems that the power of Lord Vindine has resided within me. I wonder what the power of the guardian spirit can do specifically?)
Having received this power and regained my memories from my previous life, I decided to experimentally dip my hand into the pitch black ocean.
(I feel that with Lord Windine’s power, it may be possible to restore this sea to its original state…)
As an experiment, imagine a clear, blue ocean and say to yourself, “Go back to the ocean.”
“Uh, uhhhhhhh!?”
In an instant, the black sea changed into a clear, beautiful ocean.
(Amazing…! Lord Vindine is the guardian spirit of this island, so I wonder if she can purify anything that belongs to this island.)
If they can purify poisons, they should have no trouble finding food. Malinda Island has not only the ocean but also a lake, so if they can purify that, there should be no problem with drinking water.
(Although it’s not a problem if you just want to survive, there’s no entertainment and it might be a bit boring.)
“……yeah?”
As I was thinking about how I was going to survive on this island, I heard the sound of something soft bouncing.
It’s a poison slime. Even on an island where the sea has become polluted and all the plants have either withered or become toxic, making it uninhabitable for humans, poison slimes have been able to survive because they are resistant to poison and are poisonous themselves.
Pompom, popom, the poison slime bounces around like a ball.
(That’s right. If we use the power of the guardian spirits, can we evolve poison slimes?)
In the other-worldly novels I read in my previous life, sometimes even ordinary monsters could evolve and become intelligent or even the strongest thanks to the protagonist’s special abilities.
(It may be possible to turn this slime into a human and have it talk to you.)
However, thinking that if he suddenly transformed the slime into a human form, a completely naked human would appear before his eyes, he put on the jacket he was wearing and then used the power of his guardian spirit. And then–
“Whaaat?!”
The poison slime’s round body was enveloped in light and instantly transformed into a human form.
Just as planned――No. A handsome man, far beyond my imagination, appeared.
Is this really the round monster from before? I wondered, but there was a dark, transparent look to its skin, remnants of it having been a poison slime.
“It’s a pleasure speaking with you, Shelfie.”
“Oh, you know me?”
“Yes. I heard everything you said about your exchange with Lord Windine.”
Poison Slime-san kneels in front of me and bows his head.
“You are the one who inherited the power of this island’s guardian spirit. I thank you for using such precious power on me. From now on, I will obey you, Sherphy-sama.”
“N-no, nothing like that. Please look up. I’d be more than happy if you’d just talk to me.”
I never thought I’d have such a beautiful woman kneel before me. I’m a little uncomfortable with just my jacket on and naked underneath, but… well, with the power of my guardian spirit and modern knowledge, I’m sure I can make some clothes for her, probably.
(Um… to make cloth, you first need to make thread from fibers from plants and such… Then, I think you’ll need a loom. If you can evolve other monsters with the power of the guardian spirits, you might be able to entrust them with various things depending on the negotiation.)
I have no intention of treating the monsters like servants, so if they cooperate with me, I would be happy to provide them with something, like food or entertainment.
(In any case, this huge, expansive island is all mine. Isn’t that great?)
If you purify it properly, it’s a beautiful island rich in nature. You can eat as much fish and fruit as you want.
Interesting. I thought I had lost everything, but I’m going to make a comeback from this island. My life is just beginning!
“Okay! Let’s work hard together from now on, Slime-san!”
Eventually, Melinda Island, which I now own, will become world famous for its seafood and tourism, and will be praised around the world as “the most beautiful watery paradise in the world, rich in food” — but that’s a story for a little while longer.
