Magical Accident Brings Them Closer
“So, what should we do, Commander Zeffen?”
“Hmm…”
Zeffen had a strange look on his face as he held his head. Mitina also sighed deeply.
Why has this happened? The trigger was that Mitina, who was watching over the training of the problem child Vite earlier, had encountered an accident.
Vite was a black iron knight who preferred rear guard positions over front line positions, and magical combat over hand-to-hand combat. Although he graduated at the top of his class from the kingdom’s magic academy, he was an extreme magic nerd and became a knight because he wanted to use magic in real combat.
And whenever he finds a mysterious grimoire in a suspicious used bookstore, he always buys it and tries it out. This morning, even though Vite was in training, he was digging into the grimoire intently.
“Vite, if you stop this, I’ll take strong measures.”
“I have reached the far reaches of Carmina… between Yamile and Fetras…”
“Hmm…”
No matter how much he kicks or hits, this bad habit won’t change. They say there’s a fine line between genius and eccentric, but when he gets to this point, I’m actually quite impressed.
“I think we should get Commander Zeffen to take a look at this guy… well, in this state, it might be difficult even for the Commander.”
Once Vite becomes like this, he will not return to normal until his intellectual curiosity is satisfied to a certain extent. Incidentally, when he is in this state, he occasionally has magical accidents, so those who know him best tend to avoid him.
“Should I just leave him alone…? But what if he unleashes some massive spell that has a terrible effect on the surroundings…?”
If that were to happen, she would be punished as the director of Vite. Just imagining such an unreasonable turn of events, Mitina’s face turned pale.
(Anyway, all I can do is watch… damn, when it’s over I’ll beat him to a pulp in training…!)
As she was thinking that, light suddenly scattered around Vite. The sight seemed to be a sign that magic was about to be activated, and Mitina instinctively braced herself.
“Hey Vite! Seriously stop it already!! That’s a joke–“
The particles of light grew in size, and for some reason they were heading straight for Mitina, who was crying out. She reflexively tried to dodge them, but many types of magic cannot be blocked physically, and the light bullet drew a distorted trajectory and mercilessly hit Mitina.
“It… doesn’t hurt. I was hit, but… nothing happened…”
I instinctively braced myself and looked at my body, but for the time being, there was nothing wrong. However, there was no doubt that Mitina had been under some kind of spell just now.
“Hmm… What’s with that scary look on your face, Mitina-san?”
“I’m going to hit you! What kind of magic did you just use? It hit me!”
“Huh? Just now…?”
“Damn, he’s forgotten again…!”
It seems that Vite was in a kind of trance state, and when he was engrossed in the grimoire, he would often lose his memory. He would not remember what spell he had used, or how he had deciphered the grimoire. This was another troubling point.
“Anyway! Now put all your effort into finding out what kind of magic was used!”
Mitina shouted loudly, which was unusual for her, and as usual, she came to report the situation to Zeffen.
“Any abnormalities that can be confirmed at this time?”
“It’s scary that I can’t find it at all. It’s made me so nervous that I had a hard time even coming here.”
“Hmm… We have no choice until Vite re-deciphers the grimoire, huh… I’m no good at magic either.”
The only thing Zeffen cannot do in battle is magic, as his constitution means he is unable to use it.
Instead, the slender sword he normally uses has the power to block the effects of magic, allowing him to overwhelm even mages with pure combat skill.
“Even if I were to use my sword to cut it, I wouldn’t know where the effect would be, so I’d have no choice but to cut Mitina in half.”
“I don’t want to die just to break the spell…!”
“If Kyelse were here, I think she could heal me before I die… Ah!”
His face turned pale as Zeffen made that incredibly frightening statement, but then he suddenly clapped his hands.
“Maybe you should ask Kyelse for advice. He’s a top-class magician, and I’m sure he had the best grades in the history of the magic academy.”
“Eh… Kyelse-dono…?”
“They’ll probably complain, but I think they’ll help me out somehow. So, have fun.”
After being sent off with a cheerful smile, Mitina looked down with a gloomy expression.
Today was an unlucky day. She didn’t know what Kyelse would say if she told her the situation. In the first place, even going to the Silver Knight’s workplace was depressing. With a gloomy mood and imagining the disaster that was about to occur, she trudged towards Kyelse.
Mitina somehow manages to avoid the glares and tangles of the Silver Knights, and finally makes it to the commander’s office. Again, muttering to herself, “I don’t want to be here,” she knocks and steps inside the room.
“Excuse me.”
“Oh, what do you want…?! Wh-why are you here?!”
“I’m sorry, but it was for unavoidable reasons.”
Kyelse, who had been working seriously, looked surprised as soon as she saw Mitina. However, she quickly put on her usual overbearing smile and spoke in a good mood.
“What’s the matter, you want to join the Silver Knights? You can’t help it…”
“No.”
“Well then!”
Perhaps because of the immediate denial, Kyelse raised her eyebrows and glared at Mitina. Explaining things to a man with such an expression on his face only made Mitina feel uneasy, but she explained the situation anyway.
Naturally, this was the first thing Kyelse said as she quietly listened to the conversation.
“The boss is responsible for the lack of supervision of his subordinates. You don’t have a strong sense of urgency. Are you stupid?”
“…”
“If he is a knight who has caused problems in the past, then deal with him. This is not just a problem for your knight order.”
Mitina couldn’t help but groan as she continued to be bombarded with sound, reasonable arguments.
As for punishment, I would rather not do so if possible. Vite is certainly a terrible problem child, but he is also a truly excellent magician. So far he has not made any fatal mistakes, so I hope that will be the case this time as well.
If there was a next time, the only thing he could do was knock Vite unconscious the moment he started reading the grimoire.
“It is absolutely as Kyelse pointed out. It is all my fault.”
“Hmmm, of course.”
“I would like to solve this problem with the help of you excellent lady Kyelse. Please have mercy on me.”
“Hmm, I see, I see.”
Mitina bowed respectfully, and Kyelse seemed to be in a good mood as she smiled and held out her hand to Mitina.
“Give me your hand. I’m the most beautiful and talented wizard in the kingdom. I’ll lend you my power.”
“Thank you very much…”
Mitina was about to rebel against his condescending attitude as usual, but she took Kyelse’s hand. Since they were at work, she thought that he would be able to tolerate her touching her.
But however.
The moment their hands touched, both Mitina and Kyelse’s expressions became grim. They could tell without a doubt that magic had been activated.
And just as he quickly tried to let go, he noticed something strange.
“My hands…”
“You won’t leave me…?”
The two of them are stuck together, unable to let go of each other’s hands.
It was as if their hands were frozen together in a giant block of ice, they were motionless.
“S-sorry, Kyelse-dono…”
I had expected her to start hurling abuse at me straight away, but Kyelse looked puzzled as she searched for something. She was probably searching for a clue to break the spell.
As expected of a knight who can do anything. While I was quietly impressed by this, Kyelse frowned in a sulky mood and spoke in an irritated tone.
“What kind of magic is this? The circuits are all messed up, and the chain of commands are all just a bunch of incomprehensible letters! Even I’ve never seen anything like it before…”
“So you’re at your wit’s end?”
“You idiot! I’m not going to give up so easily! First, let’s go and see the grimoire where this magic was written.”
“It’s fine though…”
With her hand still clasped together with Kyelse’s, Mitina looked troubled at the door to the office.
“Are you going to walk outside like this?”
“…”
Perhaps realizing what she was worried about, Kyelse also went quiet, her expression grim. Walking outside together holding hands was the best torture for Mitina and Kyelse.
Kyelse probably didn’t want her subordinates to see her in such a shameful state. She took a small sigh and activated some kind of magical tool that was on her desk.
“What was that?”
“It’s a means of communication in emergencies. I didn’t think I’d need something like this, but I never imagined it would be useful.”
After waiting there for a while with Kyelse, there was a knock on the door to the office. It was Zeffen who appeared, carrying a slender sword and smiling brightly as he saw the two of them.
“Maybe you called me? …It seems like you’ve become quite close.”
“Don’t be ridiculous! It must be magic working!”
“That’s right. Kyelse looked happy to me…”
“shut up……!”
Soon after meeting, a one-sided quarrel broke out as usual. Mitina watched with dead eyes, wondering why Kyelse hated Zeffen so much.
“It’s a magic spell that makes hands stick together. Well, I’m glad nothing serious happened.”
“It’s important in a way. If it stays like this, I won’t be able to go outside.”
“That’s certainly true… then.”
Saying this, Zeffen reached for the thin sword he was carrying. It was the sword he usually used, capable of cutting through the effects of magic.
“Shall I separate them for you?”
”If we cut the gap between their hands cleanly, we’ll separate,” Zeffen said with a gentle smile, sounding threatening. The two of them shook their heads at the same time. It wasn’t that they doubted Zeffen’s skill with the sword, and even if they accidentally got cut somewhere, Kyelse could heal it immediately with her strength, but they didn’t want to take such a dangerous measure.
“Anyway! Bring me the Black Iron Knight who has the grimoire. That’s all, and once that’s done, don’t ever set foot in here again…!”
“Yes, yes, I understand.”
Mitina couldn’t help but hang her head in shame at Zeffen running errands without complaint. Magic certainly wasn’t that great, but it was still important enough to restrict Kyelse’s freedom and cause trouble for Zeffen.
“I never thought I’d end up making Captain Zeffen run errands for me…”
“Your mismanagement is also his mismanagement. Let him be. Besides, surely Zeffen has his own problems if he doesn’t manage a problematic child himself.”
Kyelse says this with a unclear intention, whether she is being strict with Zeffen or trying to cheer up the depressed Mitina. Mitina is surprised by how quiet he is, as she had expected him to complain about being dragged into the situation.
As this was happening, Vite came into the office with a pale face and, of course, the grimoire in his hands.
“I, the assistant commander, and also… the Silver Knights, Commander Kyelse… may I call you…?”
“Just lend me that grimoire.”
“Y-Yes.”
Vite handed the grimoire to Kyelse, still on the page it had been open to when it was activated. Mitina looked at it with her and was just as surprised as Kyelse.
“What is this…these characters are quite ancient.”
“Kyelse, can you read it?”
“There’s no way I can’t read it.”
At first, one would think she was trying to show off, but Kyelse read the enigmatic letters smoothly. Even so, she was the student with the best grades at the Magic Academy, and was likely at best a genius greater than Vite.
After waiting in silence for a while for the results of the deciphering, Kyelse suddenly looked at the cover of the grimoire. She frowned as she read the fainted letters on it, and held up the grimoire in one hand.
Instantly, the grimoire burst into flames and instantly turned to ash.
“Ahhh!!”
“You there!”
“Y-yes!”
Even though she was shocked that her grimoire had been burned without her permission, Vite replied cheerfully to Kyelse’s powerful voice.
“The next time you bring such a strange grimoire, I’ll turn you to dust…!”
“M-my apologies!”
“If you understand then get out now!!”
As he chased Vite away, Kyelse sighed in annoyance. She was definitely angry.
“Well… I’m really sorry, Kyelse. It was all my fault that this happened…”
Even Mitina, as expected, began to feel guilty about causing so much trouble to Kyelse.
I am currently interfering with his work and causing him unnecessary stress. No apology will ever be enough.
“Plus, you’re a germaphobe, and your hands are still stuck together… are you feeling okay? Even though it’s like this, should I go wash my hands now…?”
“…………”
“If the spell doesn’t wear off, I won’t be able to leave my office… Not only that, it’ll be even more troublesome when I get back to the mansion…”
Suddenly thinking about what would happen after they returned to the mansion, Mitina’s face turned pale.
I can’t let go of her, and I can’t take off my clothes, so I can’t take a bath. Even if I could somehow take off my clothes, I would have to be with her or within reach when bathing. We would end up eating, sleeping, and doing everything together.
(That would be extremely bad…!)
Of course, Kyelse, who is an extreme clean freak, would not be able to put up with such a lifestyle. Only now, as she began to take the seriousness of the situation seriously, did Mitina’s stomach churn.
“I’m truly sorry…”
As Mitina meekly apologized, Kyelse for some reason kept her mouth shut and looked away. It seemed she had completely angered her, and her head hung in déjà vu at the reaction.
Kyelse then got up from her seat. I thought she was going to wash her hands after all, but she turned to Mitina with a slight blush on her cheeks.
“Kyelse-san…?”
“It’s easy for me to touch you now.”
“Is that so…? Well, that’s certainly true when we’re outside…”
“Just behave yourself.”
Just as she was wondering what on earth she was going to do, Kyelse gently pinched Mitina’s cheek. Surprised by this mysterious action that came without any warning, Mitina instinctively raised her eyebrows.
“What’s that?”
“Hmm, your face is a little more charming. I’m glad your ugliness didn’t get any worse.”
“Huh…?”
Mitina instinctively frowned in annoyance at the sudden pinch on her cheek and the abusive remark. Kyelse’s mocking expression also irritated her, and she instinctively reached out her hand.
“W-You idiot, don’t mess up my hair!”
“I’m going to mess up your hair, even though you spend more time styling it than I do.”
“I’ll never forgive you…!”
With one hand still stuck together by the effect of the magic, they started touching each other with the other, roughly stroking each other’s hair, pinching each other’s cheeks, pulling each other’s ears, and from the outside it looked like a childish quarrel.
As they do this, the distance between them narrows and widens, and their positions change constantly.
With a thud, Mitina’s back hit the wall. It was then that Mitina finally realized she had been getting too worked up, and she gasped at the sight of Kyelse’s face right in front of her.
(That’s close…)
For some reason, the one-handed attack and defense subsided, and Kyelse placed her hand on the wall and stared intently at Mitina. It was hard to see because of the shadows, but she somehow felt like her face was redder.
She braced herself for the sweet, gentle air that was floating about, but Mitina denied her imagination, saying that it couldn’t be. She then lowered her gaze to avoid his gaze.
“――――”
His hand touched her cheek, and then his face suddenly drew closer, and she felt the soft touch of his lips on hers. It was so sudden that Mitina just widened her eyes and felt the gentle kiss being pressed against hers.
(picture……?)
The kiss, in which it seemed as if time had stopped, ended after just a few seconds, and Kyelse smoothly pulled her face away. As I stared at him in a daze, he spoke, a little shaken up.
「Look, see, with me, something this simple is a piece of cake…!」
(Ah, ah… I guess this proves that being a germaphobe is okay…)
As I was convincing myself, I noticed that my hands had just separated. It seemed the spell had been broken.
“Oh, it’s solved, Kyelse-dono.”
“Hmmm… I helped solve the problem, of course.”
Kyelse looked a little tired as she said this as she sat down at her desk. I don’t know exactly what she did, but there’s no doubt that Kyelse’s contributions were great.
“Thank you very much, Kyelse. I’m grateful.”
“This debt is going to be expensive.”
“Yes, yes. If you have any requests, I’ll give them back to you.”
Having been saved again just like the last time, Mitina tells Kyelse that she will return the favor. However, Kyelse begins to think seriously about something, and Mitina immediately regrets saying it after all.
While praying that she wouldn’t be treated like a slave for the rest of her life, she asked what had been bothering her.
“Now that I think of it, what kind of grimoire is that? You were able to read the letters on the cover, right?”
“…!”
For some reason, Kyelse overreacted, and averted her gaze from Mitina to hide her reddened face. Then she made a quick gesture as if to brush it away with her hand.
“You don’t need to know that! Your business is done, get out of here!”
“Oh, is that so? Well then, I’ll be off then.”
Since she wasn’t welcome there was no point in staying longer, so Mitina decided to leave Kyelse’s office obediently. She then told Zeffen that the spell had been broken and went to finish off Vite.
Furthermore, what was the title of the grimoire that Kyelse had hidden?
Apparently it was “Sudden Closeness! A Selection of Magical Love Happenings!”
