Extermination mission arrives

“Oh, good morning…”

With a loud yawn, you step into the living room to find a sparkling, well-prepared breakfast laid out on the table.

For Mitina, who usually just had to nibble on some bread in the morning, this sight was more than just luxurious; it felt like she was being called to heaven.

“Hey, don’t show us your ugly face when you just woke up. Wash your face first.”

“Yay…”

“You’re totally relaxed.”

She washed her face roughly at the sink while listening to Kyelse’s nagging all morning. She was also told to wipe up any water that dripped onto the floor, moisturize her face after washing it, and other small details. However, she deliberately ignored him, roughly fixed her hair, and sat down to breakfast.

“I’ll enjoy having this”

It was already the umpteenth morning. I had only half-jokingly said that I’d left the cooking to Kyelse, but I never really expected that I’d actually be able to eat such delicious food every morning and every night.

Until now, Mitina would usually work late into the night and eat cheap dinners out. However, now that she could eat Kyelse’s delicious food for free, she found herself finishing work and heading home around dinner time.

(Ah, the food is delicious this morning as well…)

Just as I was waking up and feeling impressed by the deliciousness of my breakfast, I noticed Kyelse staring at me with a puzzled look in her eyes.

“What is it?”

“Did you have lunch properly?”

“Hmm? Well… I eat outside.”

“Do you not know anything about cooking?”

“It can’t be helped, I don’t have time to cook.”

But that was just because the Black Iron Knight was well paid for overtime, he was so absorbed in his work that he neglected his own life.

Besides, earning money was the most important thing to Mitina. However, she didn’t think there was any need to tell Kyelse about that situation, so she kept quiet to avoid saying anything unnecessary.

(Well, if I can successfully complete this secret mission, things should improve a lot financially…)

“Let’s forget about the cooking. It’s going to be a heavy burden for you, a rough person like you.”

“That’s true.”

“But you need to have a bit more sense of urgency.”

When I tilted my head as if to ask what it was, Kyelse replied with a look of pity on her face.

“I’m a merciful person who goes out of my way to cook for you breakfast and dinner and take care of you. I tell you to at least consider eating a balanced lunch.”

“Haa.”

“Your skinny physique is probably due to not eating properly.”

Mitina was silent, unable to decide whether Kyelse was being kind or trying to provoke her. She understood that she had been subjected to major sexual harassment that morning, but she couldn’t quite read Kyelse’s true intentions.

But in reality, even though she complained about this and that, it was true that Kyelse was taking care of her meals. Considering that she had been forced into an engagement by the king’s orders and had hated it so much, she was a surprisingly caring person.

“Kyelse-dono, you really are caring.”

“…”

“He is considerate in many ways, and I can see why he has been entrusted with the role of captain of the Silver Knights and is so highly valued by my lord.”

“Hmph… I know, I know. You should praise me more. I’m the finest knight in the kingdom!”

Unlike before, she no longer tried to hide anything, and spoke up in her usual tone with a happy smile on her face.

Thinking how energetic she was in the morning, Mitina took another bite of her food. After chewing it well and swallowing it, she spoke with a smile to the happy Kyelse.

“But even if my breasts or butt get bigger, it’ll just get in the way in battle, so it’s fine.”

“Huh!?”

“Also, commenting on other people’s body shapes is sexual harassment, so please stop.”

“This is being done out of concern for people, so it’s unnecessary, it’s sexual harassment…!”

Mitina finished her breakfast while watching Kyelse, who had begun barking loudly as usual.

After all, they ended up working in the same place, so despite arguing with Kyelse again, they headed to the royal castle together.

While she was watching over Vite’s training and helping Zeffen with his paperwork, she received a summons from King Regula. It seemed he wanted a progress report on the Kyelse matter.

“How is living with Kyelse going? Is it going well?”

In the throne room, which she had not visited in a while, Mitina knelt respectfully and then immediately stood up. Of course, she knew that King Regula would not reprimand her for this extremely rude behavior, even if it seemed to an outsider.

“More than I thought. I didn’t expect that she had severe germaphobia, but if we can just deal with that, I think she’ll be able to get married and have children.”

“I see, you’re a germaphobe… that’s right.”

“Is it not well known within the Knights?”

Since he hates all things dirty and ugly to such an extent, I thought his stubbornness might be known even among the Silver Knights. However, judging by King Regula’s reaction, it seemed that this was not the case.

“Everyone should know that Kyelse hates being touched so much.”

“Well… that’s true.”

Mitina immediately understood the simple answer. In the first place, touching someone without permission is rude in itself. If you think about it, it’s true that there may not be many situations where that cleanliness freak would show up at work.

“Moreover, Kyelse is especially patient when behaving as a knight. You may not be able to imagine this, but in public places such as ceremonies, you hardly see her fastidious side. Her personality is the same as always, though.”

“I see……”

In other words, when it’s time to behave as a knight, his intense obsession with cleanliness probably doesn’t come out. Perhaps it’s a reaction to that that he becomes so concerned about even the smallest details when he’s at the mansion.

(If they’re putting up with it during the day, it’s not surprising they’re being so noisy… but that would be a hindrance to everything Istaria-sama needs.)

Either way, Kyelse’s obsessive-compulsive disorder would need to be cured to some extent. It was unclear whether it was really possible to cure her, but she had no choice but to do it.

“Your unexpected patience, your nobility that is in line with the ideal, your personality aside, I think you definitely have some good points. The question is whether Lady Istaria will understand that or not.”

Mitina still didn’t know about this woman called Istaria. She was probably a noble lady, but unfortunately she had no connection to the nobility, so she had never even heard of her name.

“I see, that’s a good point, but we needn’t worry about that.”

“What do you mean?”

“Istaria is Kyelse’s childhood friend.”

“Ah, I see.”

She was convinced that King Regula had indeed taken an interest in her.

Surely Istaria had known Kyelse since she was a child, so she might be able to tolerate his arrogance and narcissism.

“Istaria is a very intelligent and kind-hearted person. She has been acquainted with Kyelse for over ten years.”

“so”

“When Kyelse’s parents passed away, Istaria’s parents also supported her. She is already independent now, but if Kyelse hadn’t become a knight, she might have ended up marrying the family.”

In other words, Istaria’s parents were also happy about their daughter marrying Kyelse.

From what King Regula said, Istaria may have been very important to Kyelse as well. She couldn’t help but speculate that maybe she became a knight because she didn’t want people to know about her extreme cleanliness.

“I understand that there is no need to worry, Lady Istaria. Please rest assured, I will definitely grant your wish.”

“Yes. I have high hopes for you, Knight Mitina.”

After bowing deeply in response to King Regula’s words of encouragement and leaving the throne room, Mitina began to think.

As expected, the biggest problem was her obsession with cleanliness. To be honest, if Istaria understood Kyelse’s personality, that was the only thing she needed to fix.

(The problem is still… how to overcome this, right? If King Regula were to order him to sleep outdoors every day, it would be easy.)

Thinking that, she shook her head. Now that I think about it, Kyelse was a very patient man when in her role as a knight.

(Royal Order, that won’t work. Hmm, but… I can’t pour dirty water over his head… Maybe I should boycott his bathing right after we get home and get him used to it…?)

As I returned to Zeffen’s office with these thoughts in mind, I saw my boss pushing aside some documents and gazing intently at the documents spread out on the desk.

“Commander Zeffen, what’s wrong? The atmosphere seems a bit tense.”

“Welcome back, Mitina. It seems that there have been some magical beast attacks in the vicinity.”

Hearing those words, Mitina’s expression changed completely.

“Is the damage really that bad?”

“No. It’s not that bad yet. Only livestock in the villages around the royal capital have been affected. However.”

Zeffen muttered this with a bit of meaning, and handed a report to Mitina.

The report was about the damage caused by the monsters. The damage was described in detail. Mitina frowned at the distribution of damage that she had never seen before.

“…That’s a bit strange. It doesn’t seem like they’re attacking randomly in search of food.”

“It’s a bit different from just ordinary magical beast damage, right? There may be a new species, or an evolved individual, targeting something else.”

“Yes, this is a bit.”

The difference between magical beasts and normal beasts is that some are poisonous or cursed, so they require specialized combat classes to be exterminated.

Magical beasts are not that intelligent. It depends on the type of magical beast, but most of them hunt in packs like wild animals. However, there are some magical beasts that are somehow intelligent.

This time it looks like it will be troublesome in both senses, Mitina muttered.

“If a clever individual is leading a pack, the difficulty of extermination will increase dramatically. Right now, it seems they are killing livestock and waiting to see our reaction.”

“Yes, we can’t afford to be too leisurely. But if we get hasty and neglect our preparations, there will probably be casualties even within our own household.”

With Zeffen making such a bold statement, it’s safe to say that the situation is already serious.

“I understand. I’ll leave the paperwork aside and immediately check for supplies and notify all parties. It looks like this will be a big job for the first time in a while.”

“It’s probably going to be a long journey. I think Mitina should tell Kyelse that she will be away from the mansion.”

“Oh, Kyelse-dono…”

Since they were living together, it would be best to tell Kyelse that he would be away on a mission for a while. Even if it was only for a short time, he would be happy to know that he would be away without his rough roommate.

“Well, shall we go to work?”

Muttering this, Mitina’s heart was excited at the prospect of a new opportunity to earn money.
